MER Clinic: Better Internet Research for Model Railroaders

Presented by Eric Dervinis @ MER Raleigh 2011

Prototype or completely freelance, model railroaders thirst for information on the how and what. Stations, cars, engines -- can I find an image? Often an element is nearly complete if only a little more was known. All types of information are available on line, from the first railroads in the 1830s to contemporary railroads today. The sources vary from home made web sites to huge commercial portals. Learn how to harness this wonderful resource. Tips on where to look, how to save your finds and organizing the search. Eric will demonstrate a search for information on anthracite coal mines and breakers on the Lackawanna Railroad. Attendees will receive a handout explaining how to conduct their own search. With fast internet access almost universal at home and work, the incremental cost is zero (free).
